LIBERAL ARTS

Students enrolling in a Liberal Arts Major will participate in a well-rounded general program of studies.  The curriculum is multi-disciplinary and covers a wide array of subjects.  Liberal Arts colleges offer a true Liberal Arts Major, whereas larger colleges and universities tend to treat Liberal Arts as a minor.

A Liberal Arts Major is a very versatile program.  It allows students to graduate with a Liberal Arts Major or choose a specialty degree (i.e. science) in the second year of their studies and focus on the specialty for the remainder of the major program.  As with any major degree program, a certain number of core courses are requisite.

A Liberal Arts Major curriculum typically includes history, religion, literature, languages, arts, physical and social sciences and mathematics.  Such a diverse curriculum is attractive to employers, who seek educated employees who are capable of adapting to various careers.  A Liberal Arts Major qualifies students for entry-level positions in countless fields.

The advantages of attending a liberal arts college include small class sizes, more individualized attention from instructors and residential study.  Some student-instructor ratios are as low as 7:1, which is an obvious asset for Liberal Arts Major scholars.

Certification is not necessary for a Liberal Arts Major.  Should a graduate obtain employment in a particular field, it is recommended he or she join a relevant professional association to obtain further information and resources pertinent to the job position.

Not only does a Liberal Arts Major have a positive effect on employability and choice of careers, it benefits a student’s personal life by enabling him or her to understand and contribute in many ways to the betterment of society.

Liberal Arts Major graduates have several options should they desire to continue with post-graduate education.  Examples include Sciences, Education, Arts, Literature, Philosophy, General Studies and Music.  These options illustrate the value of a Liberal Arts Major.
